Inspiration: Garden to Vase

Inspiration: Drawing inspiration from the garden and naturalistic floral design. Materials are natural and imperfect, quirky and unique. This design is inspired by both the season and the surrounding landscape. Snipping an abundance of foliage, herbs and perennial flowers from the garden at the height of summertime. I was inspired by garden design for the larger floral display, celebrating the use of garden materials and wild, foraged elements. For the smaller arrangement, I drew on Wabi-Sabi design inspired by the vessel.

Mechanics: For the larger vase, I worked with a vintage glass flower frog placed inside of a ceramic cylinder vase. This mechanic allows you to place the initial stems and keep them in place until the bulk of the stems forms a natural grid. For the smaller vase, I placed a ceramic flower frog on the top of a ceramic yunomi teacup. This allowed for a minimalist design with very few stems.

Flowers and Foliage: Ninebark, Butterfly Weed, Oregano, Catnip, Mint, Hydrangeas, Echinacea, Painted Lady Spirea, Tomotoe Vine, Astilbe, Heuchera Coral Bells, Burning Bush, and Foxglove
