The Winning Mom: Lindsay Curtis

"I met Lindsay through her mom blog. We both had daughters and hers was just 7 months older than mine. Our daughters were toddlers when we first started reading one another's blogs about motherhood. While my journey would divert from hers, we still found comfort through one another's posts and an online friendship grew over a few email exchanges and social media posts. I appreciated the candid way she wrote about motherhood and was inspired by how she focused on teaching her daughter about love above all else. While other moms were introducing their kids to the ABCs and 123s, Lindsay was making sure her daughter knew the incredible power of love. Her daughter was just a toddler when she introduced her to caring for plants. Lindsay's small Toronto apartment is vibrant even in the dead of winter with plants adorning the windows and thriving thanks to mom and daughter who show them love and nurture them with the essentials. Present day, when you arrive at their house, a clever and happy 6 year old will introduce you to all of her plants and tell you their history too. She names them, cares for them, and loves them. It's clear that this lesson has translated into more than just caring for plants. I can see it most when her daughter interacts with mine with the patience and compassion that even adults don't often show. It's second nature to her. In 2016, Lindsay ended her mom blog, but our relationship was only just beginning. As I got to know Lindsay beyond parenting I realized that how she parents is how she lives her life - with love as the leading force. The lucky recipients in her life from her mom to her sisters to me and my daughter know a love that is without condition and without limits. She will often set aside her own needs to take care of others and unfortunately has been put in the position to do just that all too often. Lindsay is a single mom to one of the brightest, funniest, and happiest 6 yos I have ever known. To see the happiness in her daughter's eyes is to know what an incredible mom she is. I don't really know how to say it better or more cleverly than that. But if you spend even just a minute around them you will know that of all the adjectives and pronouns you could use to describe who Lindsay is, mom is the one that matters most to her."
