Inspiration: Roses, Physalis & Foraged Foliage

We have set a goal to use our creativity and imagination, and to allow concept and colour to inspire us to make. Here is one of our weekly creative projects: A moody palette of soft pastels and deep burgundy blooms and foliage are styled and photographed in natural lighting.

An abundance of roses including O'Hara and Juliet garden roses, Baccara, Menta, and Shimmer roses are mixed into various ceramic compotes and vases with Cluni ranunculus, local larkspur and scabiosa, plumosa ferns, foraged foliage, physalis and the last of the season's peonies.

There is nothing better for me than mixing roses with fruit. I especially love the papery texture of the physalis and its shiny fruit. Notice movement in the details - the particular crook of a bending stem, reaching and curling buds, holes dotting a leaf left by a nibbling insect, a furling rose and its splitting petals.
